**Arizona DPS Honors Fallen Officer Douglas E. Knutson**

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) today honors the memory of Officer Douglas E. Knutson, Badge #3818, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on January 2, 1998.

On that day, Officer Knutson was assisting a stranded motorist in the gore area on the westbound Loop 202 near Scottsdale Road. While performing his duties, he was struck from behind by a pickup truck. Officer Knutson was transported to Maricopa County Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Officer Knutson was the first AZDPS motorcycle officer to lose his life while serving. He had dedicated 12 years of service to the agency at the time of his death.

The Arizona DPS community continues to honor Officer Knutson’s sacrifice and remember his legacy. **#WeWillNeverForget**
